Internship Orientation¶
Welcome to the Innovation Studio internship program! This brief lesson summarizes what you need to know before getting started. Review each topic carefully and refer back throughout your internship.
Program Overview¶
- Mission: Gain real-world experience building software products with guidance from industry mentors.
- Schedule: Four 3-week modules make up the 12‑week program:
- Software Development Basics (Weeks 1–3)
- AI‑Assisted Development (Weeks 4–6)
- Agile and QA Practices (Weeks 7–9)
- From Concept to Market (Weeks 10–12)
- Expectations: Attend all scheduled meetings, complete assignments on time, and participate in daily Slack check-ins.
FLSA Compliance¶
- This internship is structured to comply with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) by focusing on education and practical skill development.
- Participation is voluntary and unpaid. You can end your internship at any time.
- Work hours are flexible around your academic schedule. Let your mentor know if conflicts arise.
Workflow Tools¶
- TalentLMS: Hosts lessons, quizzes, and assignments. Check progress and upload deliverables here.
- GitHub: Version control for projects. Follow repository guidelines when submitting pull requests.
- Slack: Daily communication with mentors and peers. Use designated channels for each module.
- Zoom: Virtual meetings and pair programming sessions.
Code of Conduct¶
- Treat everyone with respect and professionalism.
- Follow security best practices—never share sensitive information publicly.
- Ask for help when stuck. Collaboration and learning are core to the program.
